Colic for Babies: Can you Treat it?  

Having a colicky baby can be irritating and frustrating for the parents. One will feel inadequate, confused, exhausted, worried, frustrated, frantic with the crying colicky baby. Not only the baby, but the parents also have to suffer from sleepless nights. Anyway, it is the condition and just like every other condition, you should be prepared and ready to tackle it. Symptoms of Colic for Babies: 

Colic in babies usually develops at birth only. Although, some babies have the condition but the symptoms developer the later stage. It is the parent who first figures out this condition in the baby. 

  • Crying baby, not for minutes but hours also. 
  • Regular symptoms become aggressive at the time of sleeping and feeding.
  • Baby can also suffer from gas problems and abdominal pain. 

Colic (โค ลิ , which is the term in Thai) for babies can usually be diagnosed at the age of 2-3 months. If a baby is crying for more than 3-4 hours per day, the baby can be considered as colicky. So, you should take the baby to the doctor and the doctor will give the final diagnosis of the condition. 

Reasons for Colic in Babies: 

Although, there is no single or one cause that can be given for the colic in babies. But some of the most common reasons are mentioned below. 

  • Gas problems 
  • Allergies due to food 
  • An immature or partially developed digestive system. 

Treatment for Colic in Babies: 

Once your baby finds such problems or if you have any doubt about the problems, you should take the baby to the pediatrician. Never try to give any medicine without consulting with the pediatrician. 

Next, you should start looking for chiropractic therapy for your baby. Never expect the results in the first or second visit. You have to wait for at least 3-4 sessions and the symptoms will get better. 

In addition to it, you should take certain precautions that can help your baby to have ease. 

  • Of course, most of the women breastfeed their baby for 6months-12 months. If you are breastfeeding, avoid having sprouts, Brussels, broccoli, cabbage, and spicy foods. 
  • Regularly massage the baby’s tummy because it will help in easing the condition.
  • You can also place the hot water bottle, by covering it with the cotton cloth and place it on the stomach of your baby.
